The centerpiece of San Felipe [1]’s shady Plaza de Armas is a multileveled fountain bearing a strong resemblance to the rocky Andes visible in the distance to the east. Embellished with statuary, the plaza has a permanent artisans’ market.
The city has several historical monuments, including the Catedral de San Felipe on the north side of the Plaza de Armas, the Iglesia y Claustro del Buen Pastor (Av. Yungay between Av. O’Higgins and San Martín), alongside the bus terminal, and the colonial Casa Mardones (Av. Yungay 10).
On the west side of the plaza, the Teatro Municipal keeps a solid calendar of cultural events, from films to jazz and art exhibits. There is a local Museo Histórico de Aconcagua (Av. Riquelme 60).
