Hiking

For a good view of San Ignacio [1], you can hike a short way to the top of Mesa de la Cruz, which overlooks the town. If you have the time, descend down the other side to cool off in the Río San Ignacio springs. The trail begins behind Casa Lereé.

Organized Tours

Servicios Ecoturísticos Kuyimá (Ecoturismo Kuyimá, tel. 615/154-0070, www.kuyima.com [2]) has an office and small gift shop facing the plaza in the old Bancomer building. Kuyimá specializes in whale-watching tours at nearby Laguna San Ignacio [3] (US$115 pp per day or US$510 for four days/three nights) but can also arrange guided trips into the Sierra de San Francisco [4] to view prehistoric rock art sites (day trips US$120). Kuyimá guides speak Spanish, English, and French.

With decades of experience running low-impact, environmentally focused trips, this outfitter recently merged with Antonio Ecotours to add a daily camping option to its weeklong chartered trips.
