Unless you’re buying agricultural supplies or prescription medication, the visitor-oriented shopping is limited in Mexicali [1]. The border zone along Calle Melgar has the usual shops selling kitschy souvenirs.
Plaza Cataviña (Calz. Cetys 1800, Col. Cataviña, tel. 686/567-2896) caters to the young, upscale crowd with a modern health club and a variety of electronics, clothing, and jewelry stores.
El Armario (Calz. Justo Sierra 1700 at Blvd. Juárez, Plaza Azteca, tel. 686/568-1906) has rustic Mexican furniture, glassware, and handicrafts.
Plaza Cachanilla (Calz. López Mateos, northwest of Parque Vicente Guerrero, tel. 686/553-4177 or -4108) is a huge mall located just a few minutes away from the international border. In the summer, when the weather is hot, local families will spend the day inside the cool shopping mall.
