La Rioja’s highest-profile destination is Parque Nacional Talampaya [1], a series of fossil-rich desert canyons so near San Juan’s Ischigualasto [2] that the two parks are often visited in the same day.
That said, the provincial capital [3] is a major devotional center, and the historic mountain town of Chilecito [4]—high enough to offer some relief from the capital’s oppressively hot summer—is also part of a small but significant wine district that produces some of the country’s best torrontés.
