Calle Uruguay Area Popular clubs and bars in the Calle Uruguay area fold and new ones pop up at a rapid rate, so its impossible to say what will be there when you visit. The best bet is just to stroll around late on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night and follow the crowds. S6is (Calle Uruguay/Calle 48 Este between Avenida 4A and 5A, tel. 264-5237, Tues.Sun. nights until late), pronounced seis (the number six), is a DJ bar/cocktail lounge/sushi bar near Gauchos Steak House. Its upstairs in what had been an old house and projects the air of a party in a pleasant, minimalist apartment. It attracts a midtwenty-something and older crowd. A happy hour starts at 5 p.m. Punto PTY (Avenida 5A and Calle Uruguay/Calle 48 Este, tel. 265-1230, Wed.Sun. until late) was until recently a small, minimalist club called Dot, but I havent been back since it changed names. Its worth giving a shot late at night. TGI Fridays (Avenida 4A Sur near Calle Aquilino de la Guardia/49 Este, tel. 269-4199), ghastly though it may be, is mentioned here just because its a perennially popular destination for young singles on the prowl or just hanging with their friends. Theres another one attached to the Country Inns and Suites on the Calzada de Amador (Amador Causeway). Opah (Avenida 5B between Calle Uruguay/Calle 48 Este and Calle Aquilino de la Guardia/49 Este tel. 265-8041), formerly Café Dali, was a new hot spot on my last visit. The place features all aluminum, space-agey minimalist decor, exposed ventilation ducts, and hostesses wearing tight bustiers. Theres a smaller room at the back of the club. The attached cocktail lounge, the Deep Room Martini Bar, has a more intimate vibe and revs into gear after 2 a.m.
