Astrid Hadad y los Tarzanes perform amusing, politically sharp, yet respectful takeoffs on Mexico’s rancheras and boleros in the upstairs teatro (theater) at El Bataclán (Popocatépetl and Amsterdam, upstairs from the bar La Bodega, tel. 5511-7390), in the Condesa, on occasional weekends. Lately Hadad has taken to including a healthy dose of rumba in her repertoire as well. Hadad is worth seeing for her stage sets and costume changes alone, and her backing band is excellent.
