MERCADO LIBERTAD

At this point, Avenida Independencia runs directly beneath Plaza Tapatía, past the adjacent sprawling Mercado Libertad, built in 1958 on the site of the traditional Guadalajara tianguis (open-air market), known since pre-Columbian times. Follow the elevated pedestrian walkway south to explore the Libertad’s produce, meat, fish, herbs, food, and handicrafts stalls.
