Parque Nacional

PARQUE NACIONAL

Recently renovated Parque Nacional, the largest and most impressive of the city’s central parks, graces a hill that rises eastward between Calles 15/19 and Avenidas 1/3. At the park’s center, under towering trees, is the massive National Monument (Monumento Nacional), one of several statues commemorating the War of 1856. The statue depicts the spirits of the Central American nations defeating the American adventurer William Walker. The monument originated in France: it was made in the Rodin studios. Avoid the park at night.
