Ubatuba's Northern Coastline The first interesting beach to the north of Ubatuba is Praia Itamambuca, famous for its surfing conditions and competitions. At the mouth of a river that flows into the ocean here, you’ll find a beautiful scene of clear water and shade under some large trees. Beach kiosks serve cold beer and snacks and there are plenty of beautiful people here. Just a bit farther up the road is Praia do Felix, which is also frequented by surfers and is a great place to hang out. Next are the beaches of Promirim and Purubá. To get to these beaches, you have to cross a channel of water by boat from the north. These are beautiful and nearly deserted in low season. A great way to see this area is take a boat excursion from the Itaguá beach in Ubatuba to the Promirim beach and island, with options for snorkeling and swimming around the island. The town called Vila Picinguaba is a charming piece of Brazilian Ilha Anchieta beach culture and home to the beautiful Praia da Fazenda and the Bicas River. Just passing the area by car or bus, you can already get an incredible view of this inlet. Home to traditional Brazilian families, Picinguaba is a bit less frequented by tourists than the beaches on the southern coastline. From here you can hire boats to take you out to the nearby islands, with Ilha das Couves being the highlight for snorkeling and clear-water swimming conditions (bring your own food and water). Not far to the north is the Cachoeira da Escada. Making up more than 80 percent of the Ubatuba region, the Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar offers trails and a rich collection of flora and fauna from the original Atlantic Rainforest. It includes the Praia da Fazenda Beach and the Village of Picinguaba. Guides are available in the village or check with your hotel in Ubatuba. |
