Lopes Mendes Often noted as one of Brazil’s prettiest beaches, Lopes Mendes is a 1.5-hour hike from Abraão up and back down one of the island’s smaller peaks. Lopes Mendes is one of the most popular destinations on the island and can get crowded in peak season. Along the way, you’ll pass the Palmas and Mangue-Pouso beaches and get a good look at Abraãozinho from above. The tropical surroundings along the trail are home to numerous bird species and you might even spy some small monkeys along the way. When you finally make it to Lopes Mendes, you will set eyes on a stretch of blue water and white sand that is a rare commodity. There are no kiosks on this beach, so you’ll need your own towel or blanket for sitting. Some locals sell drinks and sandwiches from coolers, in case you didn’t eat at one of the beaches along the way. The trail and beach stops to Lopes Mendes are worth an entire day, if you take it slow and enjoy all the beaches. |
