Ilha Ancieta

Like many coastal islands, Anchieta was once home to a prison. Today, the prison is an old ruin and attracts visitors from the mainland—that, and the pristine beaches of white sand and clear water around the island. Take a boat from the Saco da Ribeira for about R$20 and don’t forget the snorkeling equipment (usually included on the boat) as the island has some great diving areas and frequent visitations by marine turtles. There are kiosks and places to eat on the beaches and near the pier, or you can bring you own lunch from the mainland. Don’t miss Praia do Sul on the south side of the island. The island is closed on Wednesdays.
