Museu de Arte São Paulo When you go to the Museu de Arte São Paulo (MASP) (Av. Paulista 1578, tel. 11/251-5644, 11 a.m.6 p.m. Tues.Sun., R$15 for adults, half price for students), you may wander around a bit, in search of the front door. The MASP is located in a modern structure, which is both above and below ground. The large cube-like building sits above ground on steel supports with a stairway and elevator as the main entrance. The elevator also takes you down to the basement, where there are more exhibits and lots of space. Touted as the finest museum of contemporary art in South America, MASP has an impressive collection of Latin American masterpieces as well as a few well-known European pieces by masters like Cézanne, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Renoir, and Van Gogh. Exhibits appear in the large basement area, as well as on the main floors of the MASP building. The Trianon/MASP metro station is right in front of the museum. |
