Praias Brava, Conchas, and Peró Across the channel to the north of Praia do Forte (and the city) are the most interesting beaches in the area, as much for the fact that they are less crowded than Praia do Forte as that they are surrounded by greenery and not by concrete. The first is Praia Brava, a small strip of white sand that attracts surfers to its strong waves. The next is Praia das Conchas, which is lined with permanent beach kiosks, more elaborate than those at Praia do Forte. Here you’ll find some tourist activities, like horseback rides and kayaks for rent. The Conchas beach is one of the prettiest, as it has calm, blue water in a quaint semi-circle formation. Although the water is somewhat cold, it’s a great place to dive in and cool down. Finally, Praia do Peró is a long stretch of beach with plenty of bars and kiosks for getting out of the sun. It goes on for kilometers and there are some dunes nearby that you can explore. Access to these beaches is somewhat limited without a car and you may consider renting one for your stay here (also useful for tripping up to Buzios). There are buses that go out to the northern beaches from the rodoviaria or from Rua dos Biquinis. A taxi will cost around R$18 from the canal area and you can probably make a deal with a small boat in the canal to take you out to these beaches, then pick you up again at the end of the day. |
