Supernagüi National Park

Made up of some 35,000 hectares of land and waterways, the Superagüi National Park is one of the most pristine areas in the south of Brazil. It consists primarily of the islands of Superagüi, Peças, Pinheiro, and Pinheirinho. The main area is the Superagüi Island and its principal port of entry is at Barra do Superagüi, a small village on the beach with a trail that leads into the island’s topical beauty. Superagüi Island is not a natural island, but was cut-away from the mainland in the 1950s with the trenching of the waterways at the northern border between Paraná and São Paulo. This was done to improve shipping conditions in the area. From the village at Barra, you can hike about 1.5 hours to Deserta Beach through the thick tropical forest. Once there, you are free to continue along the beach for some 40 kilometers to the northern tip of the island, camping included, of course. One-day trips to Superagüi leave Guaraqueçaba daily and visit the Pinheiro Island along the way. The trip takes about an hour to arrive at Barra. Trips from Paranaguá generally include an overnight stay in one of the pousadas in Barra.
