Igreja São Francisco de Paula

Positioned on a hilltop near the main bus station, the Igreja São Francisco de Paula (Rua Henrique Adeodato, no phone, R$3, 8:30–11:45 a.m. and 1:30–4:45 p.m. Wed.–Sat. and 1:30–4:45 p.m. Sun.) is one of the most majestic churches in Ouro Preto, owing to its fortunate position overlooking most of Ouro Preto from one of the town’s high points. Indeed, a visit to this church consists mostly of walking around it to take in the near 180-degree view. It’s one of the city’s newest churches, begun in 1804, and also one of the best photo ops and most romantic perches in town.
