Barro Preto Garment District With nearly 1,000 stores and outlets, Barro Preto offers everything from casual beach wear to jeans to formal evening gowns and business suits. You’ll find numerous factory outlets that offer quantity discounts for resellers, plus fabric and supply stores, indoor malls, and collectives. Many stores do not accept credit cards and there aren’t many banks in the immediate vicinity, so if you bring cash for a little shopping spree, be sure to catch a taxi to avoid walking through the surrounding neighborhoods. Keep in mind that stores in this area sell to resellers from all over the state and are not particularly oriented to tourists. And remember to always ask for a discount when paying cash. Some stores of note include Flair (Rua Goitacazes 1128, tel. 31/3272-6728) for inexpensive Lycra and cotton blends, Climary (Rua Araguari 363 near Rua Goitacazes, tel. 31/3271-6604) for a variety of beach and gym wear, Carbono Ligítimo (Avenida Augusto de Lima 1131, tel. 31/3275-8910) for great kids clothing (wholesale only, R$250 minimum), and America Latina (Augusto de Lima 1134, tel. 31/3275-1514) for jeans and a little of everything. All of these stores are open 9 a.m.7 p.m. Mon.Fri. and 9 a.m.2 p.m. on Sat. |
