Teton Village is 12 miles northwest of Jackson at the base of Jackson Hole Resort. The Village has a variety of lodging and dining options and year-round activities, and is perfect for skiers and snowboarders. Frequent START bus service makes it easy to get to town, even if you don’t have a rental car.

Most lodging and dining places are considerably more expensive than in Jackson, but the Village has a couple of lower-priced choices. In addition to hotels in this area, be sure to check out condominium rentals as a Teton Village option.

Under $100

Located in the heart of Teton Village, The Hostel (307/733-3415, www.thehostel.us) provides budget rates in a scenic location. Eight coed or single-sex hostel rooms are available for $32 per person; private rooms run $79 s or d, or $89 for up to four people. The tiny plain-vanilla rooms lack TV or phones, but there’s a big central lounge for camaraderie; it includes TVs, DVD players, pay phones, pool table, table tennis, foosball, fireplace, microwave, refrigerator, games, Wi-Fi ($5 per day), and a ski-waxing room. Because of its Teton Village location at the foot of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, The Hostel is very popular with skiers on a budget, so reserve two months ahead for midwinter rooms. Winter reservations require a four-night minimum stay. Space is typically available in the summer, with no minimum stay. Pets are accepted for a $10 fee.

$100-200

In the heart of Teton Village action, Village Center Inn (307/733-3990 or 800/443-8613, www.jhrl.com) charges $105 d for studio or loft units and $150 for two-bedroom units that sleep six. All units include full kitchens, but no Wi-Fi (though it’s available nearby). Peak-season winter rates rise to $200 d for a one-bedroom unit, and up to $230 for two bedrooms. The decor is utilitarian, but other than The Hostel, this is the cheapest Teton Village accommodation. There is a two-night minimum stay in winter.

$200-300

Alpenhof Lodge (307/733-3242 or 800/732-3244, www.alpenhoflodge.com) exudes a European ambience, reflecting its Swiss and German owners. Summertime rates start at $239 d for the simplest rooms on the top floor with sloping ceilings, or $289 for rooms with Bavarian furnishings and space for four guests. A two-room suite is $549. A continental breakfast is included and guests have access to the heated year-round outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, Wi-Fi, and computer. The resident golden retrievers are a bonus.

Another Teton Village option, The Inn at Jackson Hole/Best Western (307/733-2311 or 800/842-7666, www.innatjh.com) has standard rooms with log furnishings ($209-219 d), units with kitchenettes and fireplaces ($239-269 d), and family-friendly loft suites with fireplaces and kitchenettes ($329 for up to four guests). Guests can use the hotel’s outdoor heated pool and hot tub, sauna, and ski lockers. There’s an upscale restaurant and Wi-Fi.

Over $300

If you’re looking for beautifully appointed accommodations, you can’t go wrong at Snake River Lodge and Spa (307/732-6000 or 800/445-4655, www.snakeriverlodge.rockresorts.com). The lodge features a New West-style lobby with stone fireplaces and whimsically carved bears, plus rooms that follow the theme with rustic lamps, pine furniture, and colorful prints. A distinctive free-form indoor/outdoor heated pool has a cascading waterfall, and other attractions include indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a sauna, ski lockers, a ski-in concierge service, Wi-Fi, and a five-story spa and health club with exercise equipment, facials, manicures, hydrotherapy, massages, soaking tubs, and steam baths. Peak-season summer and winter rates are around $345 d for the guest rooms, $665 d for a one-bedroom suite or condo, up to $1,575 for a three-bedroom private home. Snake River Lodge is owned by RockResorts; their website frequently offers multi-night specials that include breakfast.

Four Seasons Resort (307/732-5000, www.fourseasons.com/jacksonhole) includes a 124-room luxury hotel with ski-in access, an elegant restaurant (Westbank Grill), an après-ski bar for slope-side drinks, a gorgeous outdoor heated pool, three hot tubs, a full health club, spa, and concierge all under one roof. Summertime rates start at $695 d for not-so-standard standard rooms (king bed, marble bath and soaking tub, in-room safe, minibar, private terrace or gas fireplace). Also available are 32 condos and homes, including a five-bedroom place that rents for $7,500 a night in the ski season!

Another of Jackson Hole’s upmarket lodging options (it gets a four-diamond rating from AAA), Teton Mountain Lodge (307/734-7111 or 800/801-6615, www.tetonmountainlodge.com) is a Western-style lodge at the base of the mountain in Teton Village. An impressive array of amenities and services are featured: indoor and outdoor heated pools, hot tubs (including an amazing adults-only rooftop version), a fitness center/spa, concierge service, valet parking, Wi-Fi, and underground parking. Guests can choose from lodge rooms or studios ($309-319 d), junior suites ($389 d), one-, two-, or three-bedroom suites ($529-1,330 d), all the way up to the penthouse suite ($1,830 nightly).

One of the newer high-end lodges in Teton Village, Hotel Terra (307/739-4000 or 800/631-6281, www.hotelterrajacksonhole.com) has a splashy modern design with an eco-boutique emphasis. Rooms are sumptuously appointed, with organic cotton sheets and bathrobes, Wi-Fi, safes, twice-daily maid service, and all sorts of techie treats, from “rain showers” in the bath and in-floor heating to iPod docking stations and flat-screen TVs. Guests have access to the pools, fitness center, and hot tubs at adjacent Teton Mountain Lodge (same owners). Standard rooms are $319-329 d, studios with kitchens cost $339 d, and suites start at $530-975 d, up to a magnificent three-bedroom suite for $1,545.
