The thing to do this far north is to sample local fare such as musk ox, caribou, and arctic char. The least expensive way to do this is at 
To Go’s (71 Mackenzie Rd., 867/777-3030), which has a few tables and a take-out menu. Caribou burgers and musk ox burgers ($8.50) are the same price as regular hamburgers but cheaper than mushroom burgers. Pizza starts at $16; extras such as musk ox are $3.50, and the Northern Pizza—with the works—is $25.
Tonimoes (Mackenzie Hotel, 185 Mackenzie Rd., 867/777-2861, Tues.–Sat. 6–10 p.m., Sunday for brunch) serves a good selection of Northern cuisine (starting at $17.95 for a caribou burger).
