Mt. Spokane State Park
The sprawling Mt. Spokane State Park (www.parks.wa.gov) 30 miles northeast of the city on Highway 206 encompasses 5,881-foot Mt. Spokane and 5,306-foot Mt. Kit Carson. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and camping in the summer, downhill or cross-country skiing in the winter.
A narrow, winding road (no RVs) climbs to the summit of Mt. Spokane, where you can stop for a picnic at the CCC-built Vista House. The incredible 360-degree vista encompasses the entire region, including parts of Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Alberta.
Dirt roads lead to other areas, and trails crisscross the park offering day hikes for all levels of ability.
