Lakewold Gardens
Lakewold Gardens (12317 Gravelly Lake Dr., 253/584-4106 or 888/858-4106, www.lakewold.org, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Thurs.–Mon., noon–8 p.m. Friday April–Sept., 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Fri.–Sun. Oct.–Mar., $5 adults, $3 seniors, military, and kids under 12) is a 10-acre collection of rare plants, including blue poppies from Tibet.
The gardens feature one of the largest collections of rhododendrons and Japanese maples in the Northwest and were designed by noted landscape architect Thomas Church. A lovely Georgian-style brick home on this country estate is also open to the public.
