VanLierop Bulb Farms
Two miles east of Puyallup, VanLierop Bulb Farms (13407 80th St. E, 253/848-7272 or 877/666-8377, www.vanlieropbulbfarm.com) was created by Simon VanLierop, a Dutch immigrant from a family with a long history of bulb growing. VanLierop helped establish the bulb industry in the Puyallup area in the 1930s, and the farm is still a family operation, now producing more than 20,000 bulbs each year.
Each spring these fields glow with the colors of 150 different varieties of crocus, daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, and other flowers. You can have them shipped or take them with you.
The flower shop is open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily mid-September to mid-November and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily mid-January to early June. Best time to see the flowers in bloom is mid-March to mid-April.
