The 80-acre Wolf Haven refuge (3111 Offutt Lake Rd., 360/264-4695, www.wolfhaven.org, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Mon. and Wed.–Sat., noon–3 p.m. Sun. Apr.–Sept., Sat.–Sun. only Nov.–Jan. and Mar., closed Feb., $8 adults, $6 seniors, $7 ages 3–12) is home to dozens of wolves that were taken in for a variety of reasons; some were no longer needed by researchers, some were mistreated or unwanted by zoos and refuges, and others were family "pets" who grew predictably wild.
The Wolf Haven sanctuary offers hourly guided tours and "howl-ins" on Fridays and Saturdays (6:30–9:30 p.m., $15 adults, $12 children) during the summer. Wolf Haven is at north of Tenino just off Old Highway 99.
