The quaint town of Poulsbo occupies the head of Liberty Bay and could pass for a tourist village on the coast of Maine. The main street is crowded with antique shops, cafés, galleries, high-quality craft boutiques, a chocolate shop, and a wonderful quilt shop.
Sailboats bob in the busy marina just a few feet away, and old-fashioned lamps brighten the evening sky. Locals jokingly call the town "Viking Junction," and it doesn't take much to see that Poulsbo loves to play up its Norwegian heritage.
Getting to Poulsbo
Kitsap Transit (360/377-2877 or 800/501-7433, www.kitsaptransit.org) provides daily bus service around the peninsula. Bremerton-Kitsap Airporter (360/876-1737 or 800/562-7948, www.kitsapairporter.com) offers shuttle buses to Sea-Tac Airport.
