For a camping option, park RVs in the trees at the city-owned Orchard RV Park (Bethel Rd. at Lund Ave., no hookups, free for 5 days) southwest of town, a quarter mile south of the Safeway.
The 200-acre South Kitsap Community Park (Jackson Rd. and Lund Rd.), two miles southwest of downtown, has hiking trails and a picnic area, plus kiddie steam trains (11 a.m.–4 p.m. daily June–mid-Sept., free). Swim or boat at Long Lake County Park (Lake Valley Rd. SE), approximately four miles south of Port Orchard.
Two 18-hole golf courses in the vicinity are Horseshoe Lake Golf Course (15932 Sidney Rd. SW, 360/857-3326) and McCormick Woods Golf Course (5155 McCormick Woods Dr. SW, 360/895-0130, www.mccormickwoodsgolf.com). The latter is considered one of the finest in the Northwest.
