Bremerton has low-cost motels in spades, but do your homework ahead of time, as some of these places can be a little sketchy.

No need for worries at the Flagship Inn (4320 Kitsap Way, 360/479-6566 or 800/447-9396, www.flagship-inn.com, $69 s, $75–85 d), though. This place is a nice waterfront motel with gorgeous views and patios to enjoy them. Rooms are updated and clean and there’s a heated outdoor pool on premises. As an added bonus, continental breakfast is served each morning.

Families may prefer getting a little breathing room at Oyster Bay Inn (4412 Kitsap Way, 360/377-5510 or 800/393-3862, www.oysterbayinn.com, $94–119 s, $84–179 d), which offers more multi-room suite options and even rents out a small chalet. There’s a restaurant and lounge on premises, plus an exercise room and its own private stretch of waterfront.

You'll enjoy easy ferry access and modern rooms at Hampton Inn and Suites (150 Washington Ave., 360/405-0200, www.hamptoninn.com, $139–169 d), pretty much the nicest hotel in town. The marina-front hotel offers comfy beds and sparkling clean facilities that include a fitness center with an indoor lap pool, business center with free printing, wireless Internet, and valet parking.

Situated on a six-acre wooded site along Puget Sound, Illahee Manor B&B (6680 Illahee Rd. NE, 360/698-7555 or 800/693-6680, $130–220 d) offers the coziest stay in Bremerton. The six suites have private baths, most with fireplaces and whirlpool baths. The eclectically furnished and comfortable house was built in 1929. A full breakfast is served, and families can stay in the beach house.
