Festivals and Events
The oldest county fair in the state, King County Fair (360/825-7777, www.enumclawskingcountyfair.com) is held the second and third week of July at Enumclaw’s fairgrounds. A rodeo, top-billed live music acts, 4-H exhibits, food, crafts, racing pigs, and a logging show highlight this popular event.
See loggers in action at the Buckley Log Show on the last full weekend of June. Another big summertime activity at the fairgrounds is the Pacific Northwest Highland Games, held the last weekend in July. In addition to the tests of brute strength that are the main attraction, the games include bagpipe and dance competitions, animal exhibits, and vendors selling Scottish crafts, clothing, and foods.
That same weekend brings the Enumclaw Street Fair, also dubbed “the Ice Cream and Pickle Festival,” with a children’s art festival, street dancing, and a food court.
In August, in the little nearby town of Wilkeson, the National Handcar Races are held in mid-July each year. In addition to the railroad handcar races, a parade, antique show, and arts and crafts festival provide diversions.
In early December, Enumclaw’s Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting is popular.
