Let’s Go Sailing (206/624-3931, www.sailingseattle.com) offers 1.5-hour sails during the day ($25), and 2.5-hour sunset sailing trips ($40) aboard two 70-foot sloops. They depart Pier 54 several times a day during the summer. Sail on Lake Union aboard a 33-foot sloop from Sailing in Seattle (206/298-0094, www.sailing-in-seattle.com, $100/hour). And if you're really serious, take weekend or evening sailing classes from the Seattle Sailing Club (Shilshole Bay, 206/782-5100, www.seattlesailing.com).

For something different, take a guided sunset or moonlight tour of Lake Union and Ballard Locks by sea kayak. These are offered periodically in the summer by Northwest Outdoor Center (2100 Westlake Ave. N, 206/281-96949694 or 800/683-0637, www.nwoc.com).

Outdoor Odysseys (206/361-0717 or 200/647-4621, www.outdoorodysseys.com) offers sea kayak tours around various parts of the Sound and to the San Juan Islands.
