Bakeries
In the land of latte, the lowly doughnut has fallen out of favor among epicurean elitists. However, there still remains a place where fried dough in the round reigns supreme.
Located at several strategic spots about town, Top Pot Doughnuts (2124 5th Ave., 206/728-1966, www.toppotdoughnuts.com, 6 a.m.–7 p.m. Mon.–Fri., 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Sat.–Sun., $3) is most easily found in its spacious two-story Belltown castle. Choose between 40 types of doughnuts including cake doughnuts, bear claws, and Boston crème pies.
Macrina Bakery and Café (2408 1st Ave., 206/448-4032, www.macrinabakery.com, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon–Sat., 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Sun., $10) is an absolutely wonderful Belltown bakery and café with delicious breads, light lunches, and perfect lattes. It’s a comfy place to hang out Seattle-style.
