Although many folks bike around San Juan Island, it isn't as bike-friendly as slower-paced Lopez. Be ready for narrow roads and speeding cars.
Rent mountain bikes ($9 per hour, $36 per day), road bikes ($12 per hour, $48 per day) or even tandems ($18 per hour, $72 per day) to cruise around San Juan Island from Island Bicycles (380 Argyle St., 360/378-4941, www.islandbicycles.com).
Susie’s Moped and Car Rentals (360/378-5244 or 800/532-0087, www.susiesmopeds.com, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily mid-Mar.–mid-Oct., $130-$150 per day) rents motor scooters in the summer from its two shops: one at the top of the ferry lanes in Friday Harbor and the other at the resort entrance in Roche Harbor.
