For a real waterfront room, Wharfside B&B (360/378-5661 or 800/899-3030, www.slowseason.com, $179 d) has two small staterooms aboard the gracious 60-foot sailing vessel Jacquelyn, docked at the Friday Harbor Marina. If you have the opportunity, splurge a little for the two-night cruise package. For $468 you'll get two nights and a morning cruise to nearby Seal Rock.

Those looking to stay closer to Roche Harbor and British Camp can consider Wildwood Manor (5335 Roche Harbor Rd., 360/378-3447 or 877/298-1144, www.wildwoodmanor.com, $199–265 d), a B&B in a large Queen Anne–style home atop a knoll above Roche Harbor, with a view across the water to British Columbia. A light breakfast can be brought directly to your room each morning or served in the downstairs salon, which is where you can also pick up the scrumptious cookies and lemonade served each afternoon. The charming Hotel De Haro (248 Reuben Memorial Dr., Roche Harbor, 360/378-2155) was built in 1886 and fronts a gracious formal garden and the harbor. This one really is a presidential suite—Theodore Roosevelt slept here.
