The West End
When you step off the ferry at Orcas, the grand old Orcas Hotel faces you. Inside is Octavia’s Bistro (360/376-4300 or 888/672-2792, www.orcashotel.com, $14–24) with such offerings as filet of beef, peppercorn-crusted salmon, or chicken piccata. Unfortunately, service can be slow and you will probably find better meals elsewhere.
Housed in a farmhouse built in 1915, The Restaurant at Deer Harbor Inn (360/376-4110 or 877/377-4110, www.deerharborinn.com, $20–38) is a spacious and comfortable place with outstanding meals. It’s a bit off the beaten path if you're staying near Eastsound, but worth the drive. You can get something as simple as freshly baked bread and homemade soups, or choose a full dinner from the blackboard listing daily specials. There’s always grilled seafood and a vegetarian entrée.
