Historic Sights
Lopez Historical Museum (Weeks Rd., Lopez Village, 360/468-2049, http://lopezmuseum.org, noon–4 p.m. Wed.–Sun. during July and Aug., noon–4 p.m. Fri.–Sun. in May, June, and Sept., closed the rest of the year) contains local flotsam and jetsam: the first car driven on the island, old farm equipment, and historical photos. Outside, find a reef net boat and an aging tractor.
A couple of other buildings are worth a gander on the island. The Lopez Library is housed in a bright red-and-white 19th-century schoolhouse just east of Lopez Village. Lopez Island Community Church in Lopez Village was built in 1904 and is notable for its steeple that splits into four cupolas. Center Church, built in 1887, is a simple white wood structure surrounded by a picket fence and next to a hilltop cemetery. The church is home to both Catholics and Lutherans (what would Martin Luther think of this?) and is approximately two miles south of Lopez Village on Fisherman Bay Road.
