Easily the most opulent Victorian structure in Port Townsend, the Ann Starrett Mansion (744 Clay St., 360/385-3205 or 800/321-0644, www.starrettmansion.com, noon–3 p.m. daily, $2 adults, kids under 12 free) is a National Historic Landmark and a favorite B&B. Take a tour or stay here to enjoy the luxury up close.

The rooms are furnished with period antiques and offer outstanding views. Dormer windows in the dome admit light that illuminates a different red ruby stone for each season of the year.
