Ozette Lake
The Lost Resort (360/963-2899 or 800/950-2899, www.lostresort.net, $50 cabin, $15 campsite) has a general store, deli, camping supplies, showers, and private campsites next to the lake.
Because of overcrowding and resource damage, the Park Service has instituted a quota system for overnight hiking in the Ozette area between May 1 and September 30. (There are no restrictions on day use, however.) Make reservations at the Wilderness Information Center in Port Angeles (360/565-3100). If you don’t have a permit, you might try arriving early to grab one of the 18 campsites accessible by car, but if those are gone, you’ll have to drive all the way back to a private campground in Sekiu. The busiest times are weekends in July and August.
The small Ozette Campground has camping ($16) year-round, but get here early to be sure of a space (no reservations). The lake is a popular place for boats, canoes, and kayaks, but winds can create treacherous wave action at times. The free Erickson’s Bay boat-in campground is halfway down the lake on the west side. There is good fishing for largemouth bass, cutthroat trout, kokanee, and other fish here.
