Food
It’s almost a challenge to get a bad meal in Langley!
Cafe Langley (113 1st St., 360/221-3090, 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. and 5–8 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Fri.–Sun. and 5–9 p.m. Fri.–Sat., 5–8:30 p.m. Sun., $17) has a huge local following who come for great Greek and Middle Eastern dishes.
Less fancy, but noteworthy nonetheless, is
Village Pizzeria (108 1st St., 360/221-3363, 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, $15). It serves up delicious, thin-crust, New York–style pies that taste best when enjoyed at the outdoor tables with great views of the water.
Located atop a hill a 10-minute walk from downtown, China City (510 Cascade Ave., 360/331-8899, 11 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Fri.–Sun., $10) serves excellent Chinese meals in an upscale setting. Big windows and a small patio offer striking 180-degree views of Saratoga Passage and the Cascades, while tall evergreen trees accent the yard. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed. There’s even dancing to DJ tunes on Saturday night.
Martini Bakery (360/221-3525, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. Wed.–Sun.) bakes out-of-this-world breads and sweets. And the South Whidbey Tilth Farmers Market (Hwy. 525 at Thompson Rd., 360/579-1871, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sat. and 4–7 p.m. Wed. mid-May–Oct.) offers all-organic fruits and vegetables, plus flowers, baked goods, and seafood. The hours are the same for a second version, the Bayview Farmers Market (Bayview Rd. at Hwy. 525, 360/221-6903). The Wednesday Bayview Farmers Market is only open July–September and includes nonorganic items.
