Cycling

With its nice, flat roads and breathtaking views of Mount Baker and the Cascades, the farm country of Skagit Valley is a great place to bicycle.

When the flowers are blooming, the scenery gets even better, but the traffic can be a real bear on weekends during the Tulip Festival. During these times those normally quiet back roads are crowded with cars, buses, and cyclists, not to mention tractors and other farm equipment.

If you’ve left your wheels at home, stop by Skagit Cycles (1704 S. Burlington Blvd., Burlington, 360/757-7910, 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat. to pick up a rental. The shop offers a variety of bikes for $30–60 a day. This is also a good stop to pick up spare tubes and other accessories.
