This grand, fully equipped country home was built in 1929 and is furnished with antiques. Also here is a separate modern cabin with fireplace that sleeps four ($190). Situated on the far side of the Methow River from the town of Winthrop, the hotel has 60 acres of property inhabited by white-tailed deer, bald eagles, and other wildlife.
Atop a 5,000-foot peak with panoramic views into the North Cascades and the Methow Valley is Sun Mountain Lodge (nine miles southwest of Winthrop, 509/996-2211 or 800/572-0493, www.sunmountainlodge.com, $205–405 s or d), one of the premier destination resorts in Washington.
