$100–150
One of the best budget spots in town is
Mt. Gardner Inn (611 Highway 20, 509/996-2000, www.mtgardnerinn.com, $89–149 d) a little mom-and-pop place run by a friendly young couple who keep the place in tip-top shape. The furniture is new and rooms are spic and span. There are several room options, including pet-friendly rooms and more luxurious rooms with private decks, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and refrigerators. For a bit more privacy, try the apartment-style suite ($199) that includes a full kitchen, separate bedroom, and a living room with gas fireplace and sleeper couch.
Just south of downtown Winthrop is Hotel Rio Vista (285 Riverside, 509/996-3535 or 800/398-0911, www.hotelriovista.com, $100–155 s or d), an Old West–style lodge with rooms overlooking the Methow River. A path leads from the hotel down to a picnic area along the river.
