Fishing
Lake Chelan is a very popular fishing spot, with kokanee salmon, chinook salmon, lake trout, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, smallmouth bass, and burbot. Fish get big in these waters, with lake trout and chinook salmon averaging 6–10 pounds; a 24-pound lake trout was caught in the lake.
Nearby, on the Columbia River and in mountain lakes, you will find smallmouth bass and rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and eastern brook trout, as well as other game fish.
The Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce (102 E. Johnson, 509/682-3503 or 800/424-3526, www.lakechelan.com) has a brochure with fishing tips for Lake Chelan. Two guide companies who operate in the area are Mountain Dew Guide Service (509/687-3084) and Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service (509/966-8678).
