U-Street Music Hall is the place to go clubbing if pretention, pricey bottle service, and half-naked girls dancing in cages isn’t your idea of fun. It has the best sound system in Washington, and it sells National Bohemian beer in cans—Baltimore’s former home brew, now made by Pabst, which has a fan following in DC.

Fortunately, U-Hall doesn’t just appeal to hipsters drinking “Natty Bo”: It’s a club that attracts a diverse crowd, including young women dressed to the nines, boys in tight Ts and cowboy boots, and college prepsters. There’s no dress code, so you won’t get booted if you don’t have the right look.

Music varies, mainly spun by DJs and focusing on anything with a great bass beat—you can feel it rumbling through your chest from the 20,000-watt sound system—including techno, electronica, dance, and house. Concerts are sometimes held here as well, including hip-hop, punk, hard-core, and soul.
