Tortola is a land of plenty for sailors and water sports enthusiasts. This is ground zero for the territory’s charter yacht industry, one of the largest in the Caribbean. The island also hosts the largest annual windsurfing race in the region, has the best surfing in the entire Virgin Islands, and is an excellent home base for anyone wanting to scuba dive on the reefs and wrecks that lie all around the BVI.

Praises of Tortola’s land-based pursuits are not as commonly sung, but they should be. There is good hiking in the island’s largest national park, exciting bicycling, and opportunities for tennis and horseback riding.
