There are several notable art galleries in Charlotte Amalie. The Pissarro Gallery (14 Dronningen’s Gade, 340/774-4621), located in the home where Camille Pissarro was raised and worked, sells reproductions of the impressionist master’s work, plus original pieces by local and regional artists. The Jonna White Gallery (30 Main St., 340/774-1201), a welcoming ground-level gallery in the heart of Main Street’s shopping district, sells large and small works by local artist Jonna White. David Hill Gallery (Royal Dane Mall, 340/714-4400) features the work of, you guessed it, David Hill.
For more choice, go to Gallery St. Thomas (1 Main St., 340/777-6363), a large gallery located steps from Government Hill and the downtown post office. Gallery St. Thomas features works by dozens of local and regional artists, ranging from contemporary pieces to traditional island scenery. The gallery sells paintings, wood sculpture, ceramics and glass, metal sculpture, and photography, as well as prints and reproductions.
One of the most colorful galleries in town is Bambini and Swane Art (International Plaza, 340/776-3557, www.bambiniart.com), a newcomer that offers large- and small-format pieces with vibrant colors and unmistakable heart. In addition to the gallery, Bambini offers classes and studio space in its second home on Crystal Gade, near the St. Thomas Synagogue.
