Few places on St. Thomas capture island style better than Hull Bay Hideaway (Hull Bay, 340/777-1898, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, $8), serving sandwiches, burgers, and fries. Come in bare feet and don’t dare hurry. This open-air, laid-back bar and restaurant caters to beachgoers, families, and people just looking for a little company. Games like horseshoes and dominos are popular ways to spend the afternoon. If you’re hungry, the famed “Arthur burger,” named after the proprietor, is the way to go.
Many St. Thomians make Sib’s Mountaintop Bar and Restaurant (Mafolie Road, 340/774-8967, 5–10 p.m. daily, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Sun., $7–25) a pit stop on their way home. You can choose to eat around the bar or in the sit-down restaurant next door. Come here for fresh red snapper, great burgers, pizza, chicken-fried steak, and more.
