The three one-bedroom cottages at Samuel’s Cottages (Rte. 10, tel./fax 340/776-6643, www.samuelcottages.com, $100) are cute, clean, and provide a good home base for exploring Cruz Bay and the rest of St. John. It is a five-minute walk from the cottages to Cruz Bay. Each peach-colored cottage has a full kitchen, cable TV, and phone and can sleep up to five people. The views are of Cruz Bay and Enighed Pond.
Be aware that the road traffic and general noisiness of Cruz Bay mean that this is not necessarily a quiet retreat. The cottages generally rent by the week ($600 for seven nights); if you are staying for three nights or less, the rate is $125 per night. Kids under 13 stay free.
