The Titan Missile Museum is a deactivated missile site, one of several missile facilities that were staffed with underground-dwelling Cold Warriors in what was once referred to as the Titan Valley, had its Titan II aimed squarely at the USSR from 1963 to 1982. The site was decommissioned in 1986 and became a National Historic Landmark in 1994.
The one-hour tour takes you deep underground, where volunteer guides, some of them former crew members, explain what daily life was like working at the silo. The highlight of the tour for many is seeing an actual Titan II waiting there in the launch duct. Guides also simulate the launch sequence that crewmembers hoped they would never have to complete.
The visitors center provides context with a Cold War timeline and artifacts from the era, and a gift shop sells souvenirs and books.
