Tucsonans celebrate the nation’s oldest African American holiday with a two-day festival at the south side’s Kennedy Park. The fun begins on June 18 and continues the next day, known as Juneteenth, the day that far-flung slaves in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that they’d been set free, two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
The annual event, now in its fourth decade, features food booths, live music and other entertainment, and loads of stuff for the kids.
