If you still can’t get enough of the German Hill Country heritage, drop by the small yet interesting Vereins Kirche Museum (in the 100 block of W. Main at the Marktplatz Center, 830/997-7832, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 1–4 p.m. Sun., $1).
Like the Pioneer Museum Complex, the Vereins Kirche Museum is operated by the Gillespie County Historical Society, and features archives and exhibits containing photos and artifacts dedicated to the Fredericksburg area’s history, particularly the rugged life experiences of the German settlers and everyday life on the frontier.
Housed in a 1936 replica of the 1847 Vereins Kirche (Society Church), the octagonal building honors one of the first structures erected in Fredericksburg, and holds the distinction of being the city’s first museum.
