The upper Highland Lakes region (northwest of Lake Travis) is surrounded by small communities, most with populations of 5,000 or less, so there’s a wide range of accommodations to choose from. Many are cheap chains on state highways, others are fancy resorts on the lakeshore, and others are quaint bed-and-breakfasts in historic downtowns.

The three “big” cities in the region are Burnet (pronounced BUR-nit), Marble Falls, and Llano. A comprehensive list of accommodations in these communities and outlying areas is available at www.lakesandhills.com.

Most visitors to Lake Travis stay in Austin or at one of the nearby campgrounds.
