Despite reaching metropolitan status, Austin does not have a major-level professional sports franchise, in large part because the University of Texas dominates many aspects of the city, including sporting events. Fortunately, the boys and girls in burnt orange are perennial contenders for national titles in all sports (they’ve won nearly 50 championship trophies collectively), so the quality of action on the field is first-rate.
Recreation-wise, Austin prides itself on its large amount of natural green space, and residents take full advantage of the city’s hike and bike trails and waterways to keep fit and relax.
