Railroad enthusiasts should make a detour to the Tennessee Central Railway Museum (220 Willow St., 615/244-9001, www.tcry.org, Tues., Thurs., and Sat. 9 a.m.–3 p.m., free). This institution is best known for its special railroad excursions, but they also collect railroad equipment and paraphernalia, which are on display at the museum.

The Tennessee Central Railway Museum is located in an otherwise industrial area between the interstate and the railroad tracks, one block north of Hermitage Avenue and east of Fairfield Avenue.
